Williams Celebrates Birthday with Big Game
The three-star running back and Arkansas commit had 206 yards and four touchdowns on only nine carries in Dallas Bishop Lynch’s 55-8 win over Dallas Carter Thursday.
“I always go out there and try to have a big game, but with it being my birthday and the first game, I wanted to make a statement,” Williams said. “It felt awesome. It was good to start off the season in a positive way.”
Williams took the first play from scrimmage 62 yards for a touchdown and ended his day on a 68-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He did not play in the second half.
He credits his coaches’ play calling and the offensive line for the performance, which also snapped Bishop Lynch’s six-game losing streak.
“We have worked hard since the end of last year,” Williams said. “We’re really determined and that showed on the field.”
Williams said he believes the win will propel the Friars to a better record than their 3-8 mark in 2013.
“It helps,” Williams said. “(The losing streak) is not going to happen again. This senior class is special and we have a good group of underclassmen. I think we’re going to win a lot.”
Two days after Williams ran all over Dallas Carter’s defense, Arkansas played well against No. 6 Auburn for one half, going into halftime tied 21-21, before losing 45-21. He was not able to watch the game live, but Williams said he watched the replay on Sunday.
“The first half was really good,” Williams said. “Everything was clicking and I really like how the offense moved the ball. I like what Coach (Bielema) is doing.”
Four-star wide receiver K.J. Hill’s commitment on Friday also caught Williams’ eye. If four-star tight end Will Gragg follows suit, Williams said it would be tough for opposing defenses to stop them.
The Razorbacks could add another highly touted recruit in three-star wide receiver LaMichael Pettway, who decommitted from Ole Miss on Monday.
Williams, who de-committed from Ole Miss to Arkansas this summer, is optimistic Pettway will be a Razorback.
“I think he will come,” Williams said. “It’s his own decision, but I started talking to him after I saw the news on Twitter. I think K.J. committing helped.”
