2016 Scout 300: East Region Breakdown

A look at how the East Region shakes out in the Scout 300 for the 2016 class.

Two of the 13 five-star prospects in the initial rankings of Scout.com's 2016 class reside in the East Region, and one saw his rating bumped up from four stars.

In addition, there are 29 four-star prospects from the East Region, which is dominated by receivers. In fact, 10 of the top 32 players are receivers.

The two five-star players are Scotch Plains (N.J.) Fanwood defensive tackle Rashan Gary, who was awarded the rating in the fall, and Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic running back Kareem Walker.

"I really like the fact I've become a five-star because that was a goal before the season started," Walker said. "I wanted to be a five-star before my junior year started."

The 6-foot, 210-pound Walker averaged more than 10 yards per carry as a sophomore, and his offer list approaching two dozen. He has a combination of power, size and acceleration to go with an ability to run the 40-yard dash in the 4.45 second range.

"(Schools) say they like the way I run the ball, how my head level drops when I hit the hole, Walker said. "They said not every running back could do things like that, and you can't teach that. It's something that is natural. And my size. Those are the things they talk about."

Maryland leads the way with eight four-star prospects, followed by Virginia (7), Pennsylvania (6), New Jersey (5) and Washington, D.C. (2).
