The top prospect in the Peach State going into the spring is five-star safety Alec Ogletree. The 6-foot-3, 210 pound safety out of Newnan has over 30 scholarship offers and he plans to display his talent inside Hallford Stadium on Friday. This hard hitting junior leads the defense into Atlanta.

“It is fun to get out there and compete and I really enjoy it,” said Alec Ogletree when asked about participating in Scout’s combine on Friday.

Ogletree is currently rated as the number two safety in the country behind Florida commitment Matt Elam and he is ready to show why he feels he is a safety this weekend.

“I just want to show everyone that I can cover and then I also want to try to show why I am ranked so high.”

Ogletree is a very unselfish player and he is not there just to show why he has the impressive offer list.

“Last year at the Scout combine, I learned a lot and I used that during the season. I will try to learn more this year and then take that with me. I also want to be there to support the other guys that I know too. I hope this helps me and the other guys.”

Telvin Smith is an outside LB.
Alec will not be the only Ogletree in attendance. His twin brother Alexander Ogletree will be there too competing at linebacker.

That position will be very talented.

Just who is the top linebacker in Georgia right now? There is really a battle going on for that top spot and the top three prospects at this position should be in Atlanta trying to win that spot.

Is it Telvin Smith from Lowndes? Is it Michael Taylor out of Westlake? Could it be Tyrone Cornileus at Stephenson?

All three have major offers, all three are great athletes, and all three have high ceilings at this position. This trio will be fun to watch and compare all day, but they are not the only talents expected at this position.

Ogletree is a playmaker for Newnan and he is getting a lot of looks. He lacks the size a little and he is not one of the fastest guys at linebacker, but he is sure tackler, he is strong, and he is always around the football.

Tommy Sanders recently picked up an offer from UCF and he will pick up many more. He is an athlete that is exceptional off the edge and a pass rusher and he has a lot of speed.

Two other rising seniors that plan to showcase their skills are Clarence Jackson and Victor Beasley. Jackson has offers from Southern Miss and East Carolina and Beasley is looking for the first school to pull the trigger. He is a little stiff, but he is an athlete getting a lot of attention.

A.J. Johnson and Marcus Mack are two sophomores to watch. Johnson has an offer from Tennessee and the 6-foot-3, 220 pound Gainesville native could play linebacker or end on the next level. Mack is a 6-foot-2, 205 pound athlete out of North Atlanta is ready to burst on the scene.

Joining the five-star in the secondary are some talented skilled athletes.

Peters is a physical corner.
Garry Peters is a corner that holds double digit offers and he will look to lock receivers down. Jonathan Mincey has offers from schools like Auburn, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Mincey’s teammate at Southwest Dekalb will also be in attendance and Sharod Golightly also has a number offers in hand.

A trio of corners that really hopes to improve their stock are Jamal Ransby, Darius Robinson, and Pernell Williams.

Ransby is a small corner will good ball skills and he has yet to pick up an offer. Robinson is just now starting to get attention and the most recent offer for him was from USF. Williams is a physical defensive back that could play corner or safety on the next level. Clemson is his lone offer at this time.

Dale Trimble will be one of the top cover guys there and he is traveling over from the state of Alabama. He has offers from Alabama, Auburn, and Florida State.

At safety, Ogletree obviously highlights that position, but two 2011 athletes have the opportunity to show what they can do.

Tyler Hunter is an athlete out of Lowndes and D.J. Green is a big safety out of Westside. Those two can play other positions, but they are expected to work out at safety on Friday. Both are getting letters from a lot schools across the South.

On the defensive line, the top two defensive ends out of the Peach State will be in attendance and two of the top interior guys are ready to compete as well.

Headling this position are Georgia commitment Jalen Fields and T.J. Stripling. Both are high level recruits that are great athletes. Fields is about 35 pounds heavier than Stripling and he is projected as a strongside DE while Stripling will play weakside on the collegiate level.

The top two guys on the inside are Shawn Green and Michael Thornton.

Green is a guy that we expect to get a lot more attention throughout the spring. He is quick off the ball and he has picked up around six offers to date, but more will come. Thornton is a strong guy that plays with good leverage and he has offers from the likes of South Carolina, Miami, and Georgia Tech.

Matt Jackson is a 2010 prospect out of Camden County that hopes to pull in offers like those two. He is a defensive end that could also play tight end or H-back in some systems because of his athleticism.

Fields is committed to Georgia.
Four of the underclassmen expected that have a chance to be high level recruits are Ray Drew of Thomas County Central, Xzavier Dixon out of Griffin, Owen Williams out of Westside in Macon, and Jordan Jenkins or Harris County.

All are ends other than Williams (DT) and all are class of 2011 other than freshman Jenkins. This quartet has a lot of talent.

Guys that have to be mentioned as athletes are Detrick Bonner, Blake Gowder, B.J. Bostic, and Derrail Moore. Gowder could work out at receiver, linebacker, or fullback, Bostic could work out at receiver or corner, and Moore could participate at running back, receiver, or defensive back.

Bostic is closing in on double digit offers at this time and he currently plays quarterback for Jefferson County.

This is by no means the entire list of defensive prospects expected in Atlanta on Friday April 10, but this just highlights some of the athletes that we expect to be there.
