In his weekly recruiting column, Dudley E. Dawson catches up with Clarksville speedster Wesleigh…
Putting On A Show
It's not surprising that the top 9 players in Hawgs Illustrated's list of the state's best 33 college football prospects already have scholarship offers from the Razorbacks.
It would seem to me that after his performance at this week's University of Arkansas football camp, the guy ranked 10th should be on the verge of getting one as well.
Clarksville athlete Wesleigh Foster (5-11, 192, 4.38) not only won the fastest man competition, but was lauded as the top defensive back and just generated the most buzz from observers during the three-day event.
"I think Arkansas is getting pretty close to offering me and I hope it is going to come through," Foster said. "I'm just waiting for it. I want to be play here at Arkansas. That is not going to change."
There has been some speculation about what position Foster would end up playing in college – running back, wide receiver or in the secondary.
The Razorbacks took the opportunity to see what he would look like at cornerback and observers were wowed – especially since that is not a spot he is used to playing.
"It was new for me, no doubt about that because I am a running back," Foster said. "But I think I played good as a cornerback. It was new getting down with the drills and stuff. I am used to doing the cutting drills, not the planting the T drills and all that."
He got nipped at the wire during the Razorbacks' 2009 camp fastest man competition.
But he had the edge this year in an equally close finish.
"I was going against some fast guys in the event," Foster said. "I really didn't know I had it until the very end. I had got beat earlier in week in the prelims. But I just went out there and performed well and got it done in the end."
What was perhaps even more impressive is that he ran just as fast – if not faster this season – after putting on nearly 15 pounds of muscle since last summer.
"Every since football season was over with, I have been with Slick Baker, who is my trainer," Foster said. "We go at it hard every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He has got my weight up to 192."
While Southern Arkansas University is the only school to offer so far, he has been getting lots of interest from Tulsa, Memphis and Ole Miss among others.

There were five UA 2011 commits who spent at least some time at the camp including quarterback pledge and offensive MVP Brandon Allen (6-3, 215) and defensive MVP Grady Ollison (6-4, 275), who shined at defensive end.
UA commits wideout Davyon McKinney (6-3, 190) of Forrest City and Fayetteville tight Demetrius Dean (6-3, 260) both participated while Razorback pledge Marcus Danenhauer (6-5, 318) stopped by.
Major target Brey Cook (6-7, 310) of Springdale Har-Ber came to camp on Tuesday – as did Har-Ber linebacker Hunter Kissinger - and met with the Arkansas coaches afterwards. Some of the other top 2011 guys: Bartlesville (OK) defensive end Devin Randall (6-4, 238), Tulsa Victory Christian offensive lineman Trent Jenkins (6-9, 312), wideouts Chris Smith (6-3, 190), of Las Vegas and Cody Robinson (6-2, 190) of Des Arc, West Memphis cornerback Quitin Sparkman and Jonesboro linebacker Brad Shearin. The 2012 class was loaded with Bearden athlete Dafonta Lowe (6-1, 185), Vilona star James Sax (6-1, 212), McCrory offensive lineman Jemar Clark (6-6, 285), Alabama prep defensive tackle Tyler Nero (6-2, 255) and defensive end Alex Bearden (6-2, 220).
