As the son of one of the SEC’s best offensive players in history, Hoover (AL) High wide receiver Maudrecus Humphrey was bound to garner attention.

He embraces his heritage of being the son of former Alabama star and NFL player Bobby Humphrey.

“It doesn't bother me that people expect so much for me," said Humphrey. "I know a lot of people know what my dad did, so I am just working hard to live up to all of that. It motivates me to be better."

Humphrey (6-2, 185, 4.5) took an unofficial visit to Fayetteville this past weekend and was very impressed with Arkansas’ 56-20 win over Troy.

Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett threw for 405 yards and 5 touchdowns as the Razorbacks put up nearly 600 yards of total offense and spread the ball around to a plethora of targets.

“Arkansas has a great offense and I really like what they have offer,” Humphrey said. “Coach Petrino does a real good job with the offense and they really do a great job of spreading the ball around to the receivers. All of them were making big plays and obviously Ryan Mallett is a great quarterback.”

He also was very pleased with the atmosphere.

“Yes, it was against Troy and not an SEC team, but I was still very, very impressed with the atmosphere,” Humphrey said. “They have great fans.”

This wasn’t his first trip to Fayetteville.

“It was a lot when I was younger because my dad used to know some people up here,” Humphrey said. “He was just coming up here to have fun and stuff.”

But this was the first time Humphrey had gotten a chance to check out everything that the Razorback football program had to offer.

“I had heard they had the best facilities and they have proven that,” Humphrey said. “I have seen everything and I just love it. I mean I really like it here.” Humphrey has 11 offers, including ones from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Nebraska, Louisville, West Virginia and others.

“I really haven’t narrowed it down,” Humphrey said. “I was thinking take some more visits and should be narrowing it down in the next month or so.”

He said that Arkansas definitely did enough to land on his short list.

“They definitely did,” Humphrey said. “I could really see myself playing here. They have a great quarterback, a great offense and a great coaching staff. They are really a program on the rise.”

Humphrey has now taken in games featuring Arkansas, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama and Mississppi State this season.

“But this atmosphere at Arkansas is really special,” Humphrey said. “The fans are so into it for their team and their offense helps by creating so much excitement.”

Hoover is now 12-1 off a 27-17 win over Jess Lanier in the state playoffs.

“We won last night so we are going into the third round of the playoffs,” Humphrey said. “It is looking pretty good for us to make it all the way through the state.”
