The University of Arkansas
was indeed all North Carolina prep linebacker Chris Smith
thought it would be.
So Smith (6-2, 220), a Mount Ullah West Rowan standout, went ahead and committed to the Razorbacks Saturday afternoon as he finished up his unofficial visit to Fayetteville.
"I had wanted to make a commitment before my senior season started and I got here and it is just everything you could want in a school and a football program," Smith said. "There was no reason to wait. This is the right place for me and I can't wait to get on the field in 2010 for Arkansas."
He joins offensive linemen Cam Feldt
of Pilot Point, Texas, and Jordan Rainey
of Joplin, Mo., to give the Razorbacks a trio of 2010 commits.
Smith, visiting along with fellow North Carolina prep standout P.J. Clyburn
, had a whopping 32 sacks last season last season among his 90-plus tackles for a state championship team.
"I really like how they are going to use me as a both a rush defensive end and a linebacker and I know this coaching staff is a great one that can get the most out of my talents," Smith said. "It is just a perfect fit."
Smith and Clyburn – a 6-2, 205-pound safety from Statesville West Iredell who visited with him - will leave Fayetteville on Sunday morning.
"We are done with the visit, but going to get some sleep and then head out Sunday morning," Smith said. "P.J. really loved it, too. He is not ready to commit, but he loved it as much as I did."
North Carolina prep linebacker Chris Smith (6-2, 220) does as expected and commits to the University of Arkansas after his unofficial visit.
