The 6-foot-4, 190-pound sophomore went 2-for-4 and tied a career high by driving in four runs in the 9-3 win over Tennessee in front of a crowd of 2,075 crowd in Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
“Getting on top of them early is just the key,” House said.
With bases loaded in the top of the first inning, House smacked a 1-2 pitch down the first-base line to give the Razorbacks an early 3-0 lead.
And after Tennessee scored a run in the seventh that cut Arkansas’ lead to 8-3, House came up in the top of the eighth and drove in Brett Eibner with a double.
House’s four RBIs are the most since he smacked a walk-off grand slam to beat South Carolina 12-11 on May 9, 2008.
Filling In
Tennessee assistant coach Bradley LeCroy found himself shaking hands with Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn at home plate, talking with umpires and doing his best to look like the man in charge.
LeCroy was forced to fill in as the Volunteers’ coach after the Southeastern Conference suspended Todd Raleigh for Friday’s game because he was ejected for the second time this season against East Tennessee State on April 21.
“I’ve been coaching third and I’m very fortunate Todd gives me a lot of responsibility,” LeCroy said. “It just didn’t work out, so I guess I’m 0-1 in my head coaching career.”
Locked And Loaded
The Razorbacks loaded the bases in each of their first three innings, and for the most part, they took advantage of the opportunities.
Along with House’s three-run double in the top of the first, right fielder Chase Leavitt drove in a run with a single to right field with bases loaded and two outs in the third.
However, the Razorbacks didn’t always come through with runners in scoring position.
With bases loaded and two outs in the top of the second, Eibner struck out looking to strand the runners.
And after Leavitt’s RBI single in the third extended Arkansas’ lead to 5-0 and again loaded the bases, second baseman Ben Tschepikow popped out to left-center field to end the rally.
“The game was about taking advantage of a couple of innings. We did leave a lot of runners out there, too,” Van Horn said. “One or two more big hits and we could have easily scored three, four, five more runs.”
