Arkansas got good news after the weekend visit of Fort Bend (Texas) Marshall tailback Knile Davis …
Rehabbing The Knile
"It was just a freakish thing," Marshall head coach Daryl Phipps said. We are one of the few schools that still have Astroturf down here and he got his foot caught in it as three guys were hitting him at the same time."
But a broken ankle certainly hasn't kept the most recent of 16 University of Arkansas commits down mentally even if it has physically.
"He would, of course, love to be out there playing for us and making plays," Phipps said. "But he is looking at this as a chance to get healthy, get stronger and just throw himself into getting better every day. I think he is going to come up there and be a great one for Arkansas from day one."
A broken collarbone shelved him after four games his junior season with this season's injury coming early in game 2.
"The injury came on the first possession of our second game," Phipps said. "I just hate it for the kid and for our offense. It is a big loss for us. But the good thing is that he had surgery two weeks ahead, is already well into his rehab and they are telling me he is going to heal up just fine and be able to run track without any problem."
That is unless he is already at Arkansas, a possibility since he might be able to graduate at mid-term.
"He told me that he might just do that because he believes he has a chance to play next season and thinks being on campus and going through spring practice would be the best way to make a step toward that," Phipps said. "He will definitely be healed up by then."
Phipps said that Arkansas is getting a quality back and quality kid in Davis.
"He is a legit 6-1 and weighs 212 pounds, runs a 4.4 and also runs a legit 21.6 in the 200-meter dash," Phipps said. "He is big and fast. He is very explosive and averaged 9.8 yards per carry for us. He is an extremely sharp young man and the kind of kid you just love to be around as well as love to have on the field."
