Arkansas Raises Men’s Basketball Ticket

FAYETTEVILLE — Attending an Arkansas basketball game just became a bit pricier.

The Arkansas athletic department announced Monday that ticket prices for all men’s contests in Bud Walton Arena had been raised from $20 to $25. This marks the second price increase in the past eight years for Arkansas basketball games. Ticket prices for Razorbacks football games were also raised for this season.

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long said the hike is necessary because of “rapidly increasing costs associated with operating our 19-sport program.”

“We’ve seen prices escalate so fast when it comes to energy, especially when you talk about team travel,” Long said. “Certainly, there are a lot of factors. But mainly, this is based on what we needed budget-wise for all of our programs to thrive.”

All tickets for Arkansas basketball games will continue to be one price ($25), regardless of seat location. Some schools charge more money for seats closer to the court, and Long said “that’s an option” for the future at Arkansas.

Long also stated that this wouldn’t be the only change regarding basketball that would eventually boost revenue.

“It is crucial that we generate the additional resources needed for our more than 450 student-athletes to compete and succeed in the Southeastern Conference and nationally,” Long said. “We continue to pursue new revenue streams while working to maximize the support from established sources. A ticket increase is only a part of the process of securing the essential funds required to operate a successful athletic program.”

Arkansas’ basketball schedule for this season hasn’t been released yet. Known nonconference games in Fayetteville are contests against Oklahoma, Texas, Austin Peay and Stephen F. Austin.
