Arkansas WR Arrested On DWI Charges
By

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas wide receiver Marques Wade was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail early Sunday morning on misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and careless driving.
According to a Fayetteville police report, Wade was stopped after an officer observed the sophomore speeding through a parking lot on Stone Street. Wade also nearly struck another officer when he slid to stop at a stop sign, the report said.
“(Wade) had the odor of intoxicants coming from his person. His eyes were bloodshot,” the police report said. “(Wade) stated when asked how much he had to drink that he had not been drinking, but had smoked some marijuana earlier in the day.”
Wade, 19, failed a field sobriety test and later blew a .110 on a breathalyzer test, according to the police report. The legal limit in
Arkansas
is .08.
Wade was booked into the Washington County Jail at 1:10 a.m. Sunday and released a little more than two hours later after posting an $880 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Fayetteville District Court on Aug. 18.
Wade is the third Arkansas player to get arrested in the past month and the sixth since Bobby Petrino was hired as the Razorbacks’ new coach on Dec. 11.
“Coach Petrino is aware of the situation,” Arkansas spokesperson Kevin Trainor said in a statement released Sunday afternoon. “He is very upset about it, and the matter will be dealt with.”
Wade played in four games last season as a redshirt freshman, but didn’t have any catches. Still, the 6-foot-3, 192-pound sophomore is expected to compete for playing time when Arkansas opens preseason camp on Aug. 4.
The Razorbacks lack experience at wide receiver, and the coaches plan to look at all the receivers to find more playmakers.
Wade has shown signs of potential in practice, and he was listed as one of three starting wide receivers on Arkansas’ post-spring depth chart. He hasn’t recorded any statistics in two season with the Razorbacks.
