Miller Passes On Ole Miss For UA

FAYETTEVILLE — Hunter Miller thought he would be playing football for new Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt. Turns out, he’ll be suiting up for Arkansas.
Miller, a quarterback at Sylvan Hills High in Sherwood, has decided to walk on at
Arkansas
instead of going to Ole Miss, his mother, Dawn Miller, said Tuesday afternoon.
Miller, who was rated a two-star recruit, signed a letter of intent with Ole Miss in February, but his mother said he had second thoughts after Nutt informed the incoming freshman that there wasn’t any room on the Rebels’ roster for him next season.
“There are no hard feelings,” Dawn Miller said. “(Hunter) is just thankful to have an opportunity to go (to Arkansas) and compete.”
After Miller visited Ole Miss last week, his father and high school coach contacted Arkansas recruiting coordinator Tim Horton about the possibility of him joining the Razorbacks as a walk-on.
Dawn Miller said her son was accepted into Arkansas on Tuesday and will move on campus this weekend. He’s also expected to make the switch to defensive back, where the Razorbacks could use the depth after replacing its entire secondary from last season.
“He was disappointed in the situation, but ultimately things happen for a reason and that’s what we keep telling him,” Dawn Miller said. “He has friends up there (at Arkansas), good friends that he’s grown up with. That’s there whatever happens (with football).”
Miller threw and rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season at Sylvan Hills. He also recorded 35 tackles, two interceptions and seven pass breakups.
