FAYETTEVILLE — Former Arkansas basketball star Ron Brewer was involved in a car accident Thursday in Fayetteville.

Rick Crisman of the Fayetteville Police Department said Brewer struck a vehicle after running a red light at the intersection of Township Ave. and N. College Ave.

Brewer told police that his brakes failed and was ticketed for disobeying a stop light. He was treated in the emergency room at Washington County Regional Medical Center and released later on Thursday.

The driver of the other car, David Shea, didn’t require medical treatment.

Brewer was a member of the famed “triplets” from the late 1970s that led Arkansas to a Final Four appearance under former coach Eddie Sutton. He is the father of Utah Jazz player and former Razorback Ronnie Brewer.
