Two Hogs Agree To Free Agent Contracts

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas cornerbacks Matterral Richardson and Michael Grant didn’t get to hear their names called during the seven-round, 2008 NFL Draft on Sunday.

They will get a chance to try to make NFL rosters, though. Grant agreed to a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, while Richardson signed with the Washington Redskins after the draft concluded Sunday night.

“That’s all I really wanted,” Grant said. “I just wanted to have a shot to get on somebody’s team and show them what I can do. That’s what I got. All it’s going to take is me doing it now.”

Grant and Richardson are two of a handful of Razorbacks who didn’t get drafted Sunday. In addition, lineman Robert Felton, linebacker Weston Dacus, running back Farod Jackson, receiver Robert Johnson and defensive backs Matt Hewitt and Kevin Woods will be trying to break into the league via free agency.

Felton may have been the biggest surprise of the group to go undrafted Sunday. He was considered a solid prospect because of his versatility, but didn’t hear his name called. When contacted Sunday, he said, “can you call back (Monday).”

Richardson was disappointed he wasn’t drafted, either, but is looking forward to his opportunity to earn a spot on the Redskins roster.

“You dream about playing at the next level,” Richardson said. “I would’ve liked to have gotten drafted, but I’m going to make the best of my opportunity and show them what I got.”
