Wilson Leads Alabama Comeback

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- John Parker Wilson was nearly flawless in a double-overtime loss to Arkansas in 2006.

He wasn't quite as flawless on Saturday, but the Alabama quarterback was perfect when it mattered -- the game-winning drive.

Trailing 38-34 and with no timeouts remaining, the Crimson Tide got the ball back with 2 minutes, 13 seconds remaining in the game. Wilson promptly led Alabama on a 73-yard drive that was capped with his 4-yard touchdown pass to Matt Caddell with eight seconds left.

"Our team has done a really good job in the two-minute (offense)," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "We practice it a lot.

"John Parker did a really good job, and he usually does a good job in two-minute."

On the winning play, Wilson lobbed the ball to the left corner of the end zone, where he found Caddell -- his second option on the play.

"It was a read play, he wasn't the first guy," Wilson said. "I went down the progression after they blitzed us, and he made a great play."

Last year, Wilson torched Arkansas' defense for 243 yards and three touchdowns -- completing 16-of-20 passing along the way. That game ended in a 24-23 loss for the Crimson Tide because of botched field goal and extra point attempts.

On Saturday, Wilson threw two interceptions to help allow the Razorbacks back into the game after falling behind 21-0 in the first quarter. However, he said his 24-of-45 effort for 327 yards and four touchdowns felt much better than last year -- because of the win.

"We all knew we could (win)," Wilson said. "The guys kept their composure through the whole game. There were a lot of ups and downs, but we kept our composure and finished it off."

Caddell's final catch was his ninth of the game, with seven coming in the second half after Alabama's leading receiver, DJ Hall, aggravated a quadriceps injury.

Hall did much of the damage to Arkansas in the first half, catching five of his six passes for 128 yards in the half. He finished with six catches for 172 yards -- a career high -- in becoming the all-time leading receiver in terms of yardage at the school.

On the final drive, with Hall back on the field but not completely healthy, Caddell took over, catching four passes, including the game winner.

"I just knew I had to get to the corner, and if the corner was going to come up to me, I had to make a play," Caddell said. "(Wilson) did a great job getting the ball to me."
