Rock Solid Offer
Inside will be a written scholarship offer from the University of Arkansas for the 2009 prospect.
It's a reward for the performance Scheelhaase (6-2, 188, 4.5) – who is being offered as a safety – put on at the Houston Nutt Football Camp the past few days.
"I heard that it was only three-and-a-half hours away from my home and that they had great facilties so I wanted to come down to camp and see what it was like," Scheelhaase said. "The first day here I saw all the facilities – it was just amazing. And they have a great coaches, some of the best I have ever been around.
"It's been a fun deal this week," Scheelhaase added. "I came down here and really didn't know what to expect. My dad talked to the coaches the first night and told them we were down here trying to show them something. I guess they thought I did well enough. I learn so much from day one to like day four."
The Arkansas offer will be Scheelhause's second after earning one from Iowa after he attended that school's camp.
"I've also been to Oklahoma for their regular camp and I am headed to Nebraska for camp there on Thursday and Friday," Scheelhause said, "Knowing that I am going to get a written offer from Arkansas and after everything I have seen down here this week, they go right up to the top."
Arkansas assistant coach Chris Vaughn, head coach Houston Nutt and quarterbacks coach David Lee all impressed Scheelhause.
"I really like being around Coach Vaughn and learned a lot from him this week," Scheelhaase said. "I also really like being around Coach Nutt and the things I learned from Coach Lee when I was working at quarterback."
Scheelhause, played wideout and safety last season as a sophomore, but will take over the starting quarterback role this season for Rockhurst, a traditional Missouri prep football power.
"Our quarterback last year was Conner Teahan, who is going to Kansas to play basketball," Scheelhause said. "This year he is gone so I will be taking over and I am looking forward to it. Last year I played receiver and safety, which is where I got a lot of my work in.
"I will probably play a little bit of safety this year on third down passing situations, but my main focus is just going to be trying to put the ball in the end zone playing quarterback," Scheelhaase continued.
Rockhurst has been known as one of the Midwest's traditional grid powers for quite awhile with seven state championships since 1971 and two already this decade.
"Last year we were pretty young and went 6-3, but we return a lot of starters this year," Scheelhaase said. "We are always known for being one of the top elite programs in the Missouri area and I think we are going to be back right up there again trying to get that state ring."
He plans to be a leader on this season's team.
"At all positions, I like to be a leader," Scheelhaase said. "At safety I see myself as a quarterback back there just like I will on offense. I like doing that and plan to be a big leader on this year's team."
He plans to be done with his camping after the trek to Nebraska.
"I might go to K-State and watch their camp, but not participate in it," Scheelhaase said. "But as far as competing in camps I will be done and just working to get better as I go into this season."
He'll do so with that offer from Arkansas.
"I'm so excited that it is coming," Scheelhaase said. "It certainly makes all the hard work I put in during the week pay off. I am very excited about what they have going on at Arkansas."
