FAYETTEVILLE — It didn’t take long for former Arkansas basketball coach Stan Heath to find a new job.

Heath will be introduced as the new coach of the University of South Florida at a news conference scheduled for 3:30 p.m. today, the St. Petersburg Times reported Monday. Heath was fired from Arkansas on March 26 after meeting with athletic director Frank Broyles. Heath went 82-71 in five seasons with the Razorbacks, and he led the team to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two seasons. But Broyles felt the program needed a change, so he fired Heath with three years remaining on his contract. Former Creighton coach Dana Altman was introduced as Arkansas’ new coach during a news conference at Bud Walton Arena on Monday evening. Heath has agreed to a five-year deal from USF that could pay him a total of $4.27 million, the St. Petersburg Times reported. As part of his firing from Arkansas, Heath was expected to receive a buyout of $900,000 from the Razorback Foundation — $300,000 for each of the three years that were left on his contract. But because of his deal with USF, Heath will not receive the buyout money. He succeeds Robert McCullum, who was fired early last month after failing to turn the Bulls into a Big East contender. Heath could not be reached for comment Monday.
