Heath Rumored As Michigan Candidate

FAYETTEVILLE — Stan Heath’s name appeared in Sunday’s editions of The Detroit News and The Detroit Free Press as a potential candidate for the head coaching position at Michigan.

Tommy Amaker was fired Saturday after six seasons without an NCAA Tournament appearance at Michigan. Arkansas’ fifth-year coach, who will meet as early as today with athletic director Frank Broyles to discuss his future in Fayetteville, has numerous ties to the state of Michigan. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University, worked at Wayne State in Detroit and served as an assistant coach at Michigan State under Tom Izzo. Other coaches mentioned in the reports as possible candidates were Tennessee’s Bruce Pearl, Butler’s Todd Lickliter, Marquette’s Tom Crean, Southern Illinois’ Chris Lowery, Winthrop’s Gregg Marshall and — if fired — Kentucky’s Tubby Smith.
