Why The Badgers Won Despite the lack of a running game, Wisconsin quarterback John Stocco got off to a fast start to give his team just enough offense to pull out the victory. Stocco, the game's most valuable player, threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first half. Meanwhile, Wisconsin's defense kept Arkansas from scoring other than two Felix Jones touchdown runs.
Why The Razorbacks Lost The Razorbacks outgained the Badgers 368-201, but they had little to show for all the yards. Neither quarterback
Casey Dick
nor Mitch Mustain found a rhythm, and running back Darren McFadden wasn't his usual dominant self with a sprained shoulder. Arkansas also stopped itself with 12 penalties for 123 yards. CRUCIAL MOMENTS * After McFadden broke off a 45-yard run on his first carry, the Razorbacks self-destructed inside the red zone. Fullback Mitch Petrus was called for a false start penalty, and kicker Jeremy Davis missed a 30-yard field goal. The three points was the difference in the game. * Wisconsin tight end Travis Beckum managed to stay inbounds while catching a 13-yard touchdown pass over Arkansas strong safety Randy Kelly with 6:13 left in the first half. The score put the Badgers ahead 17-7, more than enough to hold on for the victory. * Arkansas got the football at its own 40-yard line trailing by three with 6:01 remaining. But the team was forced to punt after McFadden gained only one yard on a run and Dick was sacked for a 12-yard loss and threw an interception on the third down. The Razorbacks never got another legitimate chance to win or tie the game.
