Life these days for 2015 Boise State interest Sawyer Shields consists more of focusing on the things…
Shields Hopes for Return "Home"
The two-star linebacker from Eagle (Idaho) High hopes to return to his home state as a Razorback.
“It’s home for me,” Shields said. “I would get to see my family and I enjoy the weather.”
He was born in Russellville, Ark., and all but his immediate family still lives in the Natural State. Of course, Arkansas playing in the SEC is also a major draw, Shields said.
During his visit to Fayetteville, Shields got a tour of the facilities from the director of recruiting, E.K. Franks. Shields said the facilities were “incredible and state-of-the-art.”
He also got to watch the Razorbacks’ third day of fall camp, where he was impressed by the physicality of the practice.
“It was the first day of pads, so it got a little heated and there were a few scuffles,” Shields said. “They got into it a little, but that’s how you want it to be. They looked extremely good.”
Arkansas was his sixth school to visit this summer. He also visited Boise State, Stanford, Utah State, Washington and Washington State. Of those schools, he participated in camps at Boise State, Stanford and Washington.
None of those schools have offered him yet, but Stanford is close to offering. The Cardinal want to have a chance to watch him play a few games this season before offering, Shields said.
As a junior, Shields had 63 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss and four sacks, and forced two fumbles while helping Eagle High to a 7-3 record and playoff berth.
Despite his parents and siblings living in Idaho, having other family in the state would make the transition easier if he ended up at Arkansas.
“It would be a little hard,” Shields said. “I’d get homesick, but I’d probably get used to it. My parents said they’d find a way to make it to my games.”
