Star City's Sophomore Sensation
The current Star City sophomore defensive lineman and 2016 prospect – who can bench press 225 pounds 21 times in a row - still looks older than his age, but Capps (6-4, 298) is simply just a big old boy.
Capps, whose great uncle Reece Parham is a long-time Fayetteville resident, is taking part in this week in Arkansas' Football Camp and is one of the few sophomores invited to participate in the Elite portion of the event that will be held Monday.
"It's a nice honor and I am just going to go out there and work hard and compete," Capps said. "I'm just hoping that I leave here with an offer."
Capps, who moved up to play the last few games of the 2012 high school season at the end of his junior high season, has already attended LSU camp this summer and impressed there.
"I think I did a really good job and they seemed to like what I did," noted Capps, who actually has grown up an LSU fan, but also has an affinity for the Razorbacks. "They have a very good program and I liked working with their coaches."
He's had a chance now to meet the Arkansas coaches and come away impressed with them as well.
They no doubt liked what they saw when the offensive and defensive linemen went one-on-one Sunday night inside Razorback Stadium and Capps more than held his own.
"They seem like really good guys and have had a lot of success at the places they have been before," Capps said. "I'm looking forward to working with them the next few days."
Capps will obviously play both the offensive and defensive line for Star City this season, but thinks defensive line is likely his college position.
"I play a lot of two technique and college coaches seem to think that is where I am best suited for," Capps said. "I am just going to keep working hard and getting stronger and learning the game."
