Arkansas 2, Georgia 0

Barrett Astin

Barrett Astin's gem leads Arkansas to a 2-0 win at Georgia Friday night in the opener of a three-game series in Athens.

ATHENS, Ga. - Needing a pitching gem to start off the weekend on a winning note, Arkansas got just that from Barrett Astin Friday night.

Astin (3-2) hurled eight innings of four-hit, shutout baseball as the Razorbacks – who lead the nation in team ERA at 1.81 - downed Georgia 2-0 in the opener of a three-game series.

The righthander allowed hits to the first two batters, but got out a bases-loaded, two-out situation unscathed and fanned eight while walking a pair in leading Arkansas (28-15, 12-7) to the win.

Colby Suggs got the save while pitching the ninth and working around giving up singles to the first two batters he faced.

He fanned the last batter of the game to leave runners stranded at second and third.

Arkansas won despite having just three hits.

Georgia (16-27, 4-15) was coming off season highs with 23 hits and 17 runs in a 17-0 win over Georgia Tech on Tuesday night.

Arkansas took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Brian Anderson's two-out single.

It stayed that way until the eighth inning when Jake Wise was hit with the bases loaded to force in a run.

The series continues at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning with Razorback ace Ryne Stanek (5-2, 1.63) facing the Bulldogs' Sean McLaughlin (4-4, 3.33).

The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net.
