Arkansas 8, San Diego State 2

Trey Killian pitched seven innings without allowing a hit and Arkansas broke out of its offensive struggles to beat San Diego State 8-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Baum Stadium.

The win was the 1,000th in Razorbacks coach Dave Van Horn's career and gave the Razorbacks a 3-0 series lead against the Aztecs. Arkansas improved to 10-5 this season.

Killian had a perfect game until allowing a two-out walk in the sixth inning. The freshman right-hander finished with seven strikeouts but was replaced in the eighth after throwing 84 pitches.

In four appearances this season, Killian has allowed just six hits in 21 innings and struck out 22. The walk Saturday was his first allowed this season.

Reliever Colby Suggs retired the first batter he faced but lost the team's no-hit bid when pinch-hitter Mitch Bluman singled with one out in the eighth. Suggs walked a pair of batters and gave up a single to begin the ninth inning, relinquishing a pair of runs before Tyler Wright recorded the final two outs to strand a pair of runners in scoring position.

After scoring two runs in the second inning, Arkansas increased its lead to 3-0 on Tyler Spoon's leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth. Spoon, who finished with three hits, extended his hit streak to all 15 games.

The Razorbacks gave their pitchers plenty of run support with a five-run sixth. Arkansas loaded the bases with no outs and scored when Joe Serrano was hit by a pitch. Spoon and Brian Anderson each followed with RBI hits and Jake Wise added a sacrifice fly.

Arkansas recorded 12 hits Saturday, more than their first two games combined against the Aztecs (7-8).
