Kentucky sophomore centerfielder Austin Cousino, last season's SEC Freshman of the Year, has been selected a second-team preseason All-American by Baseball America.

Cousino is the first Wildcat to earn preseason All-America honors from Baseball America since Chris Bisson was a third-team pick in 2010. The voting includes Major League Baseball scouting directors and is based both on past performance and professional potential.

A native of Dublin, Ohio, Cousino batted .319 with 20 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 41 RBI and 61 runs scored. He also stole 15 bases and become only the second player in UK history to record 28 multi-hit games.

Defensively, Cousino shattered the school record for putouts by an outfielder, recording 142. He also led the Cats with eight outfield assists.

Cousino joins junior southpaw Corey Littrell and sophomore two-way standout A.J. Reed as preseason All-America honorees. Littrell and Cousino were named second-team by Louisville Slugger and third-team preseason All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Reed, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound lefty and first baseman, was also named third-team preseason All-America by the NCBWA.

Kentucky enters the 2013 season ranked No. 8 in the nation, the highest preseason mark in program history. The Cats open on Feb. 15 in Spartanville, S.C., against UNC Asheville at 12 p.m. ET.
