Four Tide Frosh Get SEC Honors

Two redshirt freshmen and two true freshmen who helped Alabama to the Southeastern Conference championship have been selected to the 13th annual SEC Coaches' All-Freshman team.

On offense, Alabama was represented by wide receiver Amari Cooper, center Ryan Kelly and running back T.J. Yeldon. Alabama's selection on defense was lineman D.J. Pettway.

The Crimson Tide is 12-1 this season and headed for the BCS National Championship Game against Notre Dame on January 7.

Cooper, 6-1, 198, from Miami, and Yeldon, 6-2, 216, from Foley, both entered The University last January and participated in spring drills.

Cooper earned one of the starting jobs at wide receiver, and led the Crimson Tide with 53 receptions for 895 yards (16.9 yards per catch) and nine touchdowns. His 45-yard reception from quarterback A.J. McCarron was the game-winning score in the SEC Championship Game.

Yeldon earned the back-up spot at tailback to Eddie Lacy and has 1,000 yards rushing going into the national championship game. He has 154 carries for 1,000 yards (6.5 yards per carry) with 11 touchdowns. He also had 10 receptions for 131 yards, the most notable a 28-yard screen pass play to defeat LSU in Baton Rouge.

Pettway, 6-2, 285, from Pensacola, Fla., was a back-up defensive lineman for the Bama defense that is among the nation's best. He played in 12 games and turned in seven tackles. He was in on two sacks and also had a quarterback pressure.

Kelly, 6-5, 288, from West Chester, Ohio, played behind All-America center Barrett Jones.

Alabama, Florida and Texas A&M led the way with four selections each, while Arkansas and South Carolina placed three on the team. Georgia, LSU and Mississippi each had two.
