Arkansas won the Houston Regional with a 5-1 victory over Sam Houston State Sunday at Reckling Park.
Houston
- Four Arkansas pitchers combined to limit Sam Houston State to one run in the Razorbacks' 5-1 victory Sunday to win the Houston Regional and advance to the super regionals.
Nolan Sanburn (4-1) threw 2 2/3 hitless innings with three strikeouts in relief of Randall Fant, who threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits for Arkansas (42-19). Brandon Moore allowed a run in the eighth before Colby Suggs threw a hitless ninth.
Cody Dickson (4-5) allowed four runs — one earned — on seven hits with a strikeout in 3 1/3 innings for the Bearkats (40-22).
"I’d like to congratulate Sam Houston State on a tremendous year," Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn said. "They’ve got a really good club. We did what we wanted to do and that was get the lead early."
Arkansas scored twice in the first, and added a run in the second on Joe Serrano's run-scoring double to make it 3-0.
"I kept telling our guys that we have to take the life out of them a little bit by jumping on them. I’m proud of our team for coming out and playing. They did a good job."
Tim Redden cut the deficit to 5-1 with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth, ending a streak of 21 straight scoreless innings in the regional for Arkansas.
