Arkansas' record-setting quarterback Tyler Wilson announced Friday morning that he will be returning to the Razorbacks for his senior season instead of opting for the NFL draft.
After a record-setting junior season,
Arkansas
' All-SEC quarterback
Tyler Wilson
has decided to stay for his senior season instead of declare for the NFL draft.
Wilson, who asked for draft information from the NFL before making his decision, announced he would be returning to lead the Razorbacks Friday morning in a press release.
He will also be on ESPN's College Football Live at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.
"I have decided to stay at Arkansas for the 2012 season because I am extremely excited for what this team has the opportunity to accomplish and to finish earning my degree," Wilson said.
" After the feedback I received, the decision was extremely difficult to make. Ultimately, the chance to complete my academics and play one more season as a Razorback were compelling reasons for me to remain in Fayetteville," Wilson added.
"This past year was great for us with 11 wins and a top-five finish and we want to build on that," Wilson continued. "The group of players we have returning has high expectations and wants to work hard to compete for championships. Although my goal is to play in the NFL, I believe I can benefit greatly from another year of working with Coach (Bobby) Petrino and Coach Paul Petrino.
"I am excited to be able to spend one more season at a university where the leadership shows a tremendous amount of support and the passion of the fans is the best in the country," Wilson said.
Wilson became the first Razorback in school history to be named the first-team All-SEC quarterback and has now passed for a 4,378 yards in his career.
Wilson was 278-of-438 for 3,638 yards and 24 touchdowns this season, including a school-record 510 yards in a win over
Texas A&M
at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
Wilson, one of the team's six captains, started all 13 games as a junior and now holds nine school records.
He helped lead the Razorbacks to an 11-2 mark, a Cotton Bowl win over
Kansas State
and a top five spot in the final rankings.
He joins Arkansas tailback
Knile Davis
, who missed his junior season after rushing for over 1,300 yards as a sophomore, in announcing their intentions to return to the Arkansas program for another season.
