Now that the Arkansas football staff has completed its four-week spring evaluation period, the Razorback coaches can turn their full attention back to the 2011 signees.

Fayetteville quarterback Brandon Allen (6-3, 215) and Georgia prep safety prospect Rohan Gaines (5-11, 185) are a pair of signees that began taking summer school classes last Monday with Arizona prep linebacker Brock Haman (6-3, 238) and many others set to arrive next week to do so.

Haman and Jefferson City (MO) tailback Kody Walker (6-2, 230) have both confirmed they will step foot on campus again next Wednesday (June 1) as they prepare to attend a summer school session that starts the following Monday.

“I think the vast majority of the signees are all going to be there for the June 6th classes that start,” Haman said. “It gives us a chance to get together as a group and with the guys that are there and just get used to being a team.”

Haman, who helped his Scottsdale Sagurao squad to a state title, had shoulder surgery on Dec. 10, rehabbed and will be ready for conditioning workouts this summer and to participate fully in fall practices.

“I’ve rehabbed and fully ready to go,” Haman said. “It feels great.”

Others who have confirmed with Hawgs Illustrated that they will be here for that summer session are defensive ends and tackles Grady Ollison, Austin Beck, Horace Arkadie, Darrell Kelly-Thomas and Trey Flowers; cornerbacks Tevin Mitchell and Kelvin Fisher and offensive lineman Mitch Smothers.

Wideout Kane Whitehurst confirmed Friday that he would be here on June 5th as well.

There were six 2011 additions who went through spring practice in offensive linemen Brey Cook and Jason Peacock, defensive tackle Robert Thomas, linebacker Tyler Gilbert and wide receivers Marquel Wade and Quinta Funderburk.

There will at least be four of what turned into 32 signees that won’t arrive until July including recent juco signees Robert Atiga and Chris Stringer.

A pair of high school ones coming in July are Seagoville (Texas) tight end Andrew Peterson (6-6, 255) and Canadian import Brett Weir (6-4, 220), a projected safety whose high school is not out until June 28th.

Peterson and Arkansas basketball signee DeVonta Abron are both finishing up at Seagoville and will graduate on June 4th.

Three of the basketball signees – Hunter Mickelson, B.J. Young and Rashad Madden – are already enrolled in school and qualified as is Abron while Aaron Ross – who will take an untimed and verbal ACT in June – hopes to arrive in Fayetteville in July.

Abron confirmed Friday that he will be able to be on campus as of June 5th,

Peterson knows that Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino has mentioned him as one of the true freshmen who has a chance to make an impact immediately.

“I was excited to hear him say that because that is what my plan is,” Peterson said. “I am coming in knowing the playing time is there if I just go out and earn it.”

That is essentially what Haman – who is now up to 238 pounds - has been told about depth at linebacker.

“They have made it clear to me that there is time there at linebacker and it is just a matter at that spot – and all the others - of who is going to come in and be mentally and physically ready to play,” Haman said. “If you are ready, you are going to get on the field. If not, you’ll redshirt and get to where you can.”
