A March Mystery

There was plenty of activity on Tuesday, but no resolution and no public comment on whether Missouri head coach Mike Anderson will sign his extension with the Tigers or become the next head basketball coach at Arkansas.
The University of
Board of Curators finished their business meetings in Rolla and aren’t talking publicly about “it.”
Neither is Missouri athletic director Mike Alden.
athletic director Jeff Long and his family reportedly enjoyed a visit to the Statue of Liberty in New York City with the school plane ready if needed.
Arkansas Chancellor G. David Gearhart and President B. Alan Sugg took in the Razorbacks’ 7-2 baseball win over
in Little Rock – albeit constantly on the phone.
Super agent Jimmy Sexton gave a radio interview in which he essentially revealed nothing that wasn’t already known about the situation.
Missouri head coach Mike Anderson – the subject of much scrutiny and attention – went to
to grieve for friend Jim Pharr, who passed away over the weekend and whose funeral will be held Wednesday morning.
There were also plenty of rumors of people not picking up a phone, fire and brimstone coming down the skies, 40 minutes of Hell, 40 years of darkness, cats and dogs living together, rivers and seas boiling and mass hysteria.
All references to the 1984 movie Ghostbusters aside, the rest sums up a Tuesday when there was no public resolution on Mike Anderson’s contract extension with Missouri or his possible leap to Arkansas.

Sources continue to indicate that no formal offer has been handed to Anderson and no official contact has been made by Arkansas because that would violate the terms listed in his contract with Missouri.
But several media outlets in Arkansas were all reporting that could happen soon.
“We are so close to having this thing done by Wednesday afternoon or at the latest Thursday,” noted one of HI’s trusted sources. “I think we are all ready for a resolution right now and it really looks like we (the Razorbacks) are going to get him.”

The one thing that was certain was the Missouri Board of Curators did finish up their two-day meetings in Rolla.
After finishing public meetings, the political appointees met behind closed doors for over five hours.
When they were done and were asked questions about Anderson, interim Missouri President Stephen J. Owens chose to only offer up a voice of support for Anderson.
“I think it is safe to say that we are all big fans of Mike Anderson,” Owens told the Kansas City Star on a conference call Tuesday morning from the MU Board of Curators meeting. We appreciate very much what he does on the court and particularly off the court. But any hypothetical contract negotiations, we don’t confirm either their existence or their status.”

Sexton, one of the most powerful sports agents in the country, was interviewed Tuesday morning on Memphis radio station WHBQ AM 560 and was asked about the Missouri contact extension.
“We’ve been in discussions with them for several weeks now,” Sexton said. “Those are ongoing discussions. Nothing is imminent, this second. So I can’t speak to it. But there should be some resolution to that in the next few days.”

Pharr, a long-time Anderson supporter, passed away on Saturday after having attended Missouri’s game in the NCAA Tournament.
Visitation was held Tuesday night with the funeral set for Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.

ESPN basketball analyst Dick Vitale named Anderson one of his up-and-coming Super Six coaches.
He tabbed Anderson,
’s Matt Painter,
’s Sean Miller,
and Saint Mary’s Randy Bennett.
