In his weekly recruiting column for Hawgs Illustrated, Dudley E. Dawson catches up with Seagoville (Texas) High tight end Andrew Peterson (6-6, 250) - a prime Arkansas football recruiting target who will visit the Razorbacks on Jan. 14-16. Arkansas is hoping to hit the Seagoville Daily Double.

The Razorback basketball team has already signed 6-8, 232-pound standout Devonta Abron from the Texas high school and now the football team is trying to haul in tight end Andrew Peterson (6-6, 250).

The two combine for a powerful inside pair for the Dragons’ hoops squad.

“He (Abron) has told me how great it is up there at Arkansas and he wants me to be up there with him so he is talking to me about it,” Peterson said. “That may happen.”

Peterson watched the No. 8 Razorbacks’ 31-26 loss to No. 6 Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl on Tuesday night.

“I thought they were going to get it done there at the end,” Peterson said. “I have watched them a lot this season. They had a great season. I love the way they use D.J. (Williams) and I think I could come in and do the same thing.”

Peterson, who will take an official visit to Arkansas next weekend, was an underpublicized standout that has seen a rush of offers come his way since the season ended.

Not only has Arkansas, Oregon, Texas A&M and Utah – his final four – offered, but a total of 20 got on the phone to make him one of the nation’s most sought-after uncommitted prospects.

“I think a lot of that had to do with a coaching change at our school,” Peterson said. “Our last coach didn’t really do anything to get us out there.”

But a writer at TexasPrepInsider.com, a member of the Scout.com network as is Hawgs Illustrated, saw Peterson in a game at South Oak Cliff and got the recruiting ball rolling.

In all, he got 20 offers in two days.

“I can’t thank him enough,” Peterson said. “He got the ball rolling for me, got a highlight tape made and my coach sent them out to a bunch of schools. All of a sudden Arkansas and all these other schools were calling. About 10 schools called my coach the day they got the tape and I got about the same number of different schools that called me.”

Peterson has already visited Texas A&M, will visit Utah this weekend, arrive at Arkansas Jan. 14-16 and then trek to Oregon on Jan. 21-23.

“I could take another visit that final weekend, but we’ll just see,” Peterson said.

Peterson, who had 6 catches for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns this season for a team that completed just 31 passes, is obviously big enough to throw his weight around on the field.

“I think I am a great blocking tight end and it is something that I love to do and I know that is not the case with everybody,” Peterson said. “I also think I have very good hands, but we just didn’t throw the ball a lot.”

There is one area of his game that Peterson would love to improve.

“That’s my 40-yard dash time,” Peterson said. “Right now I run about 4.8 and I want to get that lower.”

The visit to Fayetteville will be Peterson’s first.

“I know they have great facilities and really big weight room, which would be great for me,” Peterson said. “Devonta says it is just a great place and one I would love being at the next three, four or five years.”
