The University of Arkansas football program adds a 20th commitment to its 2011 class Sunday night when Scottsdale (AZ) Saguaro linebacker Brock Haman (6-3, 230) pledges to sign with the Razorbacks.
It turns out that the first linebacker to go public with his commitment to the University of
Arkansas
turned out to be from
Arizona
instead of
Florida
.
Scottsdale (AZ) Saguaro linebacker
Brock Haman
(6-3, 230) said Sunday night that he had committed to the Razorbacks.
He becomes the 20th UA commit in the 2011 class when you throw in 2010 signee
Marquel Wade
, who is now at Milford Prep Academy in New Berlin, N.Y.
“When I started to narrow down my decision and thought over the factors about where I wanted to commit, Arkansas just kept coming out on top every time,” Haman said. “I just think it is a place that I will really be happy at the next four or five years so I wanted to go ahead and commit.”
Haman chose the Razorbacks over Arizona and
Oregon State
– the other two places he had visited officially and
Arizona State
, where he took an unofficial visit.
“Those are all great schools, but I think the fact that I have the chance to play in the SEC is really exciting,” Haman said. “It is the best conference out there and you want to go against the best players and the best teams.”
He becomes the first linebacker to publicly commit to Arkansas in this season’s 2011 class although Orlando (FL) Dr. Phillips standout
LaQuentin Smith
(6-2, 220) has made it known that he plans to make his private commit public in the near future.
“Each school I looked at had the opportunity for me to either start or come in and get significant playing time early and that really appealed to me,” Haman said. “I know I have to earn playing time, but it is there for me to come in and get at Arkansas if I put the time and hard work in.”
Haman took his official visit to Arkansas during the Razorbacks’ season-opening win over Tennessee Tech back on Sept. 4.
He also caught Arkansas’ win over
Georgia
and its loss to
Alabama
on TV.
“I actually watched the Arkansas-Georgia game on my official visit to the UA (Arizona),” Haman said. “They played great early and it was exciting to see the comeback in the fourth quarter and the way they finish. Against Alabama, it was just the opposite. They couldn’t finish that one off, but they have a great program and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
Haman injured his shoulder the day before preseason practice and just returned to action last week – only to reinjure it during the second quarter.
“It was very disappointing and I guess I probably came back too soon,” Haman said. “It appears to be hurt pretty bad again. I will have an MRI on Wednesday and I will know more then.”
